The Berg- und Alp Ordinance protects the terms "Berg" und "Alp" on foodstuffs. Foodstuffs with these designations are subject to strict regulations regarding their origin.
Summary
The Suisse Garantie brand was founded by AMS, Agro-Marketing Suisse. It is the association of agricultural sector organisations in Switzerland and is committed to promoting Swiss agricultural products. Products bearing the Suisse Garantie brand must be produced and processed in Switzerland using Swiss ingredients of agricultural origin.
Development
The ordinance is supervised by the Federal Office for Agriculture.
The requirements are set out in Ordinance 910.19 on the use of the designations ""Berg"" and ""Alp"" for agricultural products and foodstuffs made from them (Berg- und Alp-Verordnung, BAlV) and the directive, guidelines and ordinance of the EAER (Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research).
